Editor/Proofreader Contract Position

The Editing Company offers a range of services to academic and trade publishers, authors, and businesses: editing, indexing, proofreading, consulting, page layout & design. Our editors handle numerous projects for journals, academic presses, non-fiction publishers, self-publishing authors, organizations, corporations, and associations. We are hard-working and have lots on the go! Plus we’ve just moved into a spacious new office on University Avenue with quick access via St. Patrick Subway.

We are looking for an editor to join our team!

You must have strong proofreading skills and copy-editing skills, and you must be comfortable proofreading/editing a variety of business materials and academic materials. An undergraduate or graduate degree in the humanities and social sciences is required. Under the supervision of the Senior Editor and as a member of our editing team, you will work on a variety of projects in a diverse range of subjects.

 As a proofreader, you will assist with a variety of business-related projects:

*Business publications

*Business book manuscripts

*Academic magazines in business, kinesiology

*B2B marketing materials

 

Copy editing will include a range of academic articles and manuscripts:

*Journal articles

*Academic manuscripts/books

*Authors’ essays and articles

*Applications and proposals

 

Requirements

*Strong proofreading skills

*Experience proofreading with Adobe Acrobat Pro 10

*Experience working with CP Style

*Strong copy-editing skills

*Experience editing on-screen

*Strong knowledge of MLA, Chicago, APA styles

*Strong experience with academic materials, especially notes, references, and bibliographies

*A love of detail and a sharp eye for consistency

*Excellent at following specific guidelines

*Excellent time management skills; ability to work with specific time requirements

 

Assets

*Social media on Twitter – can you assist with regular Twitter posts?

*Indexing – do you like puzzles? Can you index? Do you know Cindex?

 

Please note: This is an in-office position, and not a long-distance one.

This is a part-time contract position for a Wednesday to Friday schedule.

Following the interview, a short proofreading exercise and a short copy-editing exercise will be sent to you for completion.
