What's Up @ TEC! November Edition
Another November has rolled in, and with it a host of exciting and diverse projects for copy editing and proofreading from business reports to grant proposals to academic manuscripts and self-publishing projects. There are perfect moments in being an editing team, and one of those is when new or returning clients send us their projects knowing we’ll handle their writing with care and professionalism. In this edition of What’s Up @ TEC! we outline a number of those projects that we’ve enjoyed working on over the past few months.
COMPLETED EDITING PROJECTS
Critical Digital Studies: A Reader, Second Edition, edited by Arthur Kroker and Marilouise Kroker (UTP, 2013) — We copy edited a revised introduction and 13 new essays on social networking technologies and new media that were included in this second edition.
Prologues to Ancient and Medieval History: A Reader, edited by Justin Lake (UTP Higher Ed, 2013) —
Our team copy edited the introduction to the collection and the prologues opening each of the 88 readings, as well as the readings' source lines.
Truth & Indignation: Canada’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission on Indian Residential Schools by Ronald Niezen (UTP Higher Ed, 2013) —Our team copy edited this 166-page manuscript with figures, endnotes, and references.
Mystic Yukon Nights: Northern Light Pictures and Short Stories by Jean-Marc Champeval (Takhini River Lodge, Whitehorse, 2013) — Jean-Marc contacted us to edit the short stories accompanying his photographs of the Northern Lights. This beautifully self-published book is available online here.
NEW COPY-EDITING PROJECTS
*Academic Book Manuscripts & Papers
We’ve just completed copy editing a manuscript in UTP’s Italian series that explores Italian women writers in the late-nineteenth-century new Italy. Now, we’re just about to start the copy edit of a 500-page manuscript on “the compelling, sometimes, controversial, but always enticing television classic The Sopranos” – also for University of Toronto Press.
Beth has been working with an Italian Renaissance scholar editing the endnotes and bibliography as she finalizes her manuscript that explores the network of patrician writers in Renaissance Venice and their portrayal of women in their stories and literary exchanges.
Sara has completed the copy edit of the soon-to-be-released Racialization, Crime, and Criminal Justice in Canada by Wendy Chan and Dorothy Chunn for UTP Higher Ed.
As well, we’ve been working with scholars and educators as they complete their projects, which range in subject from gender equity in education to the Crucifixion in the work of Joel-Peter Witkin.
*Journal Article Copy Editing
A few fascinating journal articles have crossed our desks of late: a paper exploring gendered surveillance in domestic spaces; critical perspectives on Canadian anti-trafficking discourse; Indigenous values underlying health systems stewardship in circumpolar regions; and Coptic icons as expressions of social agency and identity.
*Website History Project Copy Editing
Over the next few months, our team will be editing histories of Jewish Ukrainian communities for a website that is being created and sponsored by the Ukrainian Jewish Encounter (UJE), an organization dedicated to deepening the understanding of Jewish-Ukrainian relationships over the centuries and into the future. While there are over 140 towns being included, the first 60 of these will be launched on the website in late December/early January.
An independent contractor with a conscience hired us to copy edit A Homeowner’s Guide to a Successful Renovation. Mary Ann completed the copy editing and the book is now with our production editor David Ward. It will be available in both print and digital editions in December.
Sandra Dawes hired us to copy edit her book manuscript Embrace Your Destiny: 12 Steps to Living the Life You Deserve, her personal story of how her father’s death impacted her life and started her journey of self-discovery and self-awareness. It has just been published by Balboa Press.
We continue our copy editing of a memoir for a client that details his escape to London from Germany during the Second World War where he launched a professional career that took him around the world.
And we are in discussion with a client who has written a comprehensive history of Islam in three volumes. We will begin editing the first volume in mid-December.
Mary Ann proofread annual reports for our financial investment client Signal Hill, and we will be providing proofreading services to our newest client deeciper B2B Marketing on a variety of marketing materials.
COPY EDITING & PROOFREADING MAGAZINES
think: The Journal of the Lola Stein Institute Winter issue is now available through the Lola Stein website. We also provided proofreading services of newly developed curriculum materials for the Institute.
We just completed the editing and proofreading of Dolce Vita Magazine Winter 2013/14 issue and have City Life underway.
