Beth McAuley, Owner & Senior Editor / Academic & Non-Fiction Editor / Business Editor / Proofreader

Beth completed her master's degree in history at the University of Toronto in the 1980s, and shortly afterwards began her editing career. She crafted her editorial skills through professional courses at Ryerson University and the Editors' Association of Canada (now Editors Canada). Under the tutelage of academic authors and researchers, she learned the precise art of scholarly editing. She has edited for academic, trade, and educational publishers, and worked as an in-house managing editor. In 1997, she launched the successful Women's Issues Publishing Program with Sumach Press. Over the course of 12 years, she acquired, edited, and published 25 titles in the series. She founded The Editing Company Inc. in 2007, celebrating 16 years in September 2023. With the assistance of a strong and dedicated editorial team, Beth has built a strong network of professional clients that include established academic presses, academic journals, professional associations, small and medium-sized businesses, and a wide range of academic, business, and non-fiction authors.

Lesley-Anne Longo, Non-Fiction Editor / Proofreader / Newsletter Editor

Lesley-Anne has an Honours BA in Professional Writing/Communication Studies from York University, and followed her love of editing to Centennial College’s Book + Magazine Publishing program. She graduated with High Honours in 2013, and completed her internship at ECW Press, where she was subsequently hired on as an Editorial and Marketing Assistant, and worked there for six months. She has proofread and copyedited a variety of books, from young adult and fiction to sports history, and is experienced in curating and creating blogs, managing social media accounts, and creating electronic marketing materials such as newsletters to connect with readers. In her spare time, she enjoys staying active with yoga and walking her dog—and balances these healthy pursuits with another hobby: baking!

Samantha Rohrig, Academic & Non-Fiction Editor / Proofreader

After earning a BA in Classical Studies from the University of Manitoba, Samantha moved to Ontario to complete her MA in Classics at Brock University, and in 2014 put down roots in Toronto where she did graduate studies and worked as a teaching assistant in the Department of History at York University. Samantha’s graduate studies focused on Roman social history and early Christian literature, but they also provided opportunities to participate in archaeological projects around the Mediterranean, and archaeology remains a particular passion of hers. In November 2021, Samantha was awarded the Wallace A. Matheson Award for Creativity and Innovation in Educational Publishing. This award recognizes two students registered in The Chang School’s Certificate in Publishing at Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson University) who have demonstrated the initiative and aptitude to explore new and creative ways to deliver content in educational publishing.

Michael Bedford, Freelance TEC Blogger

After earning BAs in theatre studies and philosophy, Michael attended the Chang School at Ryerson University and completed its publishing certificate program. Since 2016, Michael has been working as a freelance editor and copy writer. As a part of Editors Canada’s publications committee, he contributes ideas and edits chapbooks and other resources for members. When not writing blogs about editing and writing, Michael writes about a range of other topics: TV and beer reviews and articles on the history of comic books for monkeysfightingrobots.com, and online content about Hamilton-area businesses for thespec.com. Michael is also a semi-professional actor who has appeared in plays in both the Toronto and Edmonton Fringe Festivals as well as at the Alumnae and Berkeley Street Upstairs Theatres.
