Editing and proofreading rates
TEC’s fees are based on the length and difficulty of the project and on fair market rates.
For a Quick Quote, fill out our online form and send us up to 10 pages of your work. Or give us a call and we can give you a ballpark estimate over the phone. Please note these are not hard and fast costs, but estimates to help you determine if you want go ahead.
If you are ready to start work with us, we will review your material and outline a budget for the editing costs, which would include the assessment fee.
Before starting work on your project, we will ask you to sign a written agreement, either in the form of a letter or a formal contract. This agreement specifies the scope of work and the fees, either as an hourly rate or as a fixed price for the project. All contracts and agreements between TEC and our clients are the responsibility of both parties.
Quick Quote
You can send us up to 5 pages of your work for a Quick Quote through our online service. Please note that the quote will give you a sense of what the editing costs might be while giving us a sense of the level of editing that might be required.
We will consider special rates for artists and we offer package discounts through our Writers Support Program. While these rates may vary, here is a rough guideline to help you cost your project: copy editing $45 and up; substantive editing $50 and up; proofing $42 and up; indexing $6/page for academic books and $3.50/page for general non-fiction; consulting $60/hour; permissions $45/hour. Our minimum is 1.5 hours for $75. Add HST to all rates, please.
For a precise quote, it is best to send us a sample.
