Client: Tourette Syndrome Foundation of Canada

Project: Memoirs of a Father
Author: Michael Fekete
Services Provided: Editing

The Tourette Syndrome Foundation provides educational resources, advocacy, and support for individuals with Tourette Syndrome. Memoirs of a Father, by Michael Fekete, chronicles the journey of a dad raising his child in a supportive home environment. Editing this work of creative non-fiction was inspiring and educational and required a great deal of sensitivity and respect for the subject matter. Memoirs of a Father has been a successful fundraiser for the Foundation, whose vision is that “all people who have Tourette Syndrome will lead quality lives as accepted and valued members of an informed, tolerant society.”

Client: St. Mark’s Coptic Museum

Project: Marguerite Nakhla: Legacy to Modern Egyptian Art
Authors: Fr. Marcos A. Marcos, Helene Moussa, and Carolyn M. Ramzy
Services Provided: Editing, Proofreading

Author Dr. Helene Moussa hired The Editing Company to help shape and copy edit the final draft of her remarkable biography of Egyptian artist Marguerite Nakhla. Dr. Moussa had previously written scholarly articles for journals, and a booklet for St. Mark’s Coptic Museum, to bring into focus Nakhla’s rich and varied work. TEC also took on the proofreading of final galleys. The book includes 80 reproductions from public and private collections in Egypt, Toronto, and Paris. The titles, dimensions, and medium of each of these paintings had been carefully recorded by Dr. Moussa and required our editors’ detailed attention for accuracy and consistency.

Client: The Word On The Street

Project:
Toronto Book & Magazine Festival Guide 2009
Author: WOTS
Services Provided: Proofreading

The Word On The Street is an annual, national celebration of literacy and the written word. The Editing Company had the pleasure of proofreading the 2009 Toronto Festival Guide. Its seventy-five pages are jam-packed with detailed listings of dates, times, and places of author readings and book signings, workshops and panels, kids events, and more. The guide also showcases descriptions of authors, books, and publishers across a wide range of genres. Titles, events, author names, and locations are accurately cross-referenced throughout the guide. TEC editors were responsible for checking all of these details and for catching all inconsistencies and incongruities in the final pages.

Quip of the Week
“As a college lecturer in Pakistan, I had never been reduced to making cold calls. As a newcomer to Canada, however, things were entirely different, and I had to turn to this very undesirable method of finding my way around the professional world. And with relief and some happiness I confess that cold calls are not all that bad.”
