Academic/Non-Fiction Editor Contract Position (Part-time)

The Editing Company offers editing and proofreading services to academic and trade publishers, authors, and businesses. Our editors handle numerous editing projects for journals, academic presses, non-fiction publishers, self-publishing authors, organizations, and associations. We are looking for a freelance contract editor to join our in-office team as an academic/non-fiction editor on a part-time basis (approx. 8 to 10 hours/week).
You must have strong copy-editing skills and academic/non-fiction editing experience. An undergraduate or graduate degree is an asset. Under the supervision of the Senior Editor and as a member of our editing team, you will work on a variety of projects in a diverse range of subjects:
*Authors’ essays and articles
*Strong copy-editing skills
*Experience editing on-screen
*Strong proofreading skills
*Experience proofreading with Adobe Acrobat Pro 10
*Strong knowledge of MLA, Chicago, APA styles
*Experience with academic materials, including notes/references and bibliographies
*A love of detail and a sharp editorial eye
*Indexing fundamentals and familiarity with Cindex software
*Social media know-how, including comfort level with writing blogs
